Australia's newest Parliament House opened in 1994, this beautiful building is a magnificent example of tropical architecture. The NT Library is also located here. Guided tours depart from the foyer at 9.00am and 11.00am every Saturday.Tours last 90 mins, A tour is also available on Wednesdays at 10.30am. Tours begin in the Foyer of Parliament House, Darwin. Only two kilometres north of the city centre a beautiful 42 hectare garden displays tropical vegetation . There are many sections of gardens including a rainforest gully with hundreds of palm species,orchids, ferns, figs,a wetland, water fountain, information center, a coastal zone and a mangrove boardwalk. Take the self-guided Aboriginal plant trail. Gate open 7am–7pm daily. LOCATION Gardens Road, Darwin. There is an entry on Geranium Street which is open 24 hours.

East Point Reserve
East Point Reserve EAST POINT RESERVE

Tthe reserve is a 200 hectare recreation area with walking and cycle tracks including a mangrove walking track that winds its way through a spectacular mangrove forest from the reserve through to Lake Alexander. There are BBQ facilities everywhere as this area is ppular for sunsets and family get-togethers which is why there is a large shaded playground with safe saltwater swimming at Lake Alexander. Evidence of East Point's role in the defence of Darwin are the WWII gun emplacements and harbour defences located on the Point overlooking the Arafura Sea. East Point at dusk is a 'must visit' experience. Open daily 6.00am-9.00pm Free of Charge. The reserve is accessed from Alec Fong Lim Drive in the inner city suburb of Fannie Bay.

Gaol at Fannie Bay
Fannie Bay Gaol FANNIE BAY GAOL

Darwin's original penal institution in Fannie Bay is now a museum. Since 1883 The old gaol with its crude facilities and a chilling old gallows section is a grim reminder of what life in the gaol was like.The Fannie Bay Gaol was still in use until 1979, when the Berrimah Gaol was officially opened. WW2 Oil Storage Tunnels WWII OIL STORAGE TUNNELS

Designed to protect Darwin's oil supplies from bombardment during WWII the tunnels run from the Wharf and under the city. The Tunnels now house an excellent display of photographs of historic images of wartime activity in the Top End. LOCATION Kitchener Drive, Darwin City. CONTACT Ph 08 8985 6333.
